Play is a vital part of who we are as human beings. It is found in all cultures and it expresses the essennce of who we are. Play is the difference between living and simply existing.

Xiao Guo Hui’s paintings capture the physical and emotional energy of play. Inspired by the balanced compositions of Piero della Francesca (1415-1492) and the sculptural figures of Andrea Mantegna (1431-1506), Xiao uses the traditional medium of the Florentine renaissance, egg tempera and oil paint to create straightforward, inspired work.
