Kiron Khosla’s inaugural Canadian exhibtion opens at the Gibsone Jessop Gallery in October, 2006.

Kiron Khosla is one of the most exciting young artists working in Europe today. Recently profiled in New German Painting by Prestel, Khosla posses a colorful, authentic voice.

Born in Calcutta, trained in London and based in Cologne, Kiron Khosla’s work is as eclectic and unique as his upbringing. Playing with iconographies from both Western and Eastern art, Khosla’s paintings are profoundly evocative.

His irrational perspectives and crowded compositions create a unique atmosphere that highlights a variety of mysterious themes. Bewildering ambiguity of meaning is often understood as a Mannerist device, and one that Khosla uses to enormous effect. Far more than simply obscure, he marries past and present, mythology and reality, and even the opposed sensibilities of East and West. His is an ambiguity with great purpose.

Kiron Khosla says his paintings are not about depth, but surface; “There are only surfaces. I have many [surfaces] and so do my paintings.” This tendency toward both introspection and innovation defines Khosla’s work.
